Jade and Iron
Jade and Iron

In this illustration Luis uses dark colors to make the readers of the book feel that the scene is in a hard or a tough situation. Also is notorious that he marks the details to much and he mix all of the colors with different tones of gray and brown. Even this is just one image he marks the space or the place where the object is located. Moreover in his illustrations he draw an object or a character which describes almost all the conflict the story is based about; in this case it represent the conquest and when the Spanish arrived to america the came in boats so it was key for him to draw one.

For my proposal: I'll use the idea of the boat, the dark colors, and the mark details. And with more investigation i'll look for an object which represents most of the idea of the conflict.

Sketches

In this sketch I just wanted to focus on the flag of every country; the (puños) are to express the feeling of conflict or war and the technique is chine collie but in the sketch I did it with normal paper. In this one I didn't had my proposal clear.

Sketch #2

In this sketch I wanted to do something more cultural, and because one image I had as a reference I have a boat I wanted to do some. Also I wanted to mark the connection between the two countries (Argentina, Brazil) but it's no notable in the photo. This is technique is aquatint.

Sketch #3

This sketch is the one I'll choose. As I said in the proposal, the illustrator mark very much his details, so I marked very much the boat and the weapon and also I decided to make it in different tones of grey because of the technique, and the division was to mark the two countries and the "ocean" who connects them.

This sketch is like the second one but more worked.

What I need to have in the blog

Analysis of references:

☐Analyse with interpretation of research, at least two artworks from two different artists and the art form chosen.

☐Consistently use most or all the relevant subject-specific terminology.

☐Demonstrate understanding of the impact of the artworks and art form considering time and place

-Ask yourself: How, when, and why the art form emerged – global, local, national, social, historical, personal and cultural contexts

☐Critique and evaluate the artworks analysed in detail and insightfully.

Process:

☐Present at least three samples (sketches) from various points in the artistic process.

☐Demonstrate the acquisition, development and application of skills that have been acquired by training and/or experience.

☐Demonstrate the acquisition, development and application of techniques that have been used to show skill.

-Ask yourself: have you refine and progressed on the use of skills?

Are you disciplined and do you have a purposeful use of skills and techniques?

Is your artwork related to the skills developed?)

☐Develop an artistic intention linked to the art form and artistic references studied in line with the statement of inquiry and global context.

☐The proposal and the artwork must be consistent.

☐The blog shows detailed, relevant and meaningful exploration of ideas to shape artistic intentions.

First draft of the proposal:

☐Present the intended outcome for the artwork as a statement and should be consistent with the realized artwork.

☐The proposal must be reliably feasible, clear, imaginative and coherent.

☐The proposal should evidence a number in complexity and detail, of kinds of curiosity, imagination, courage and determination.

☐The proposal shows detailed, relevant and meaningful exploration of ideas to shape artistic intentions.

First draft of the statement:

☐Include in your paragraph a convincing explanation on how knowledge is used to make artistic decisions.

-Use and point out:

☐What you have learned about the art form, the artistic references and its role.

☐The artistic skills and techniques used.

☐The ideas explored in its realization.

☐Create an understanding about something: to infer and interpret facts, an opinion, an idea or an event.

☐Establish detailed, meaningful and creative connections between the process and product and the statement of inquiry and the global context.

☐Explain how the artwork created is in response or reaction to the artistic intention with respect to the statement of inquiry

Statement

My artwork is a little confusing thanks to the tones of gray, white and black and if you only see the illustrations it would be hard to get that is about the war of Brazil and Argentina and the creation of uruguay, but if you read the "final product" or "my thoughts" and then analyze the image it would be a lot easier. This proposal can also be shown in a lot different and easier ways, but by the ideas of Luis Garay I guided and did my last sketch which is also my final product.

Process

Step One

First I burnished my metal 13 minutes for it to get a darker black.
